Those who approach a city like Venice usually do so through tours that focus on the great male names and historical feats. But what about them? Despite women being half of the population, their stories, deeds, or experiences take a backseat or seem non-existent. It's time to reveal that other...
We will arrive at a city where night will soon fall to enjoy an illuminated Venice. We will give an introduction to the history of Venice through some of its main canals, the feminine myth of the city's origins, we will review the life of Marco Polo and his family, and we will discover some of the city's most emblematic places to preview some of the content for the following days.
Accommodation.
We will start our route at St. Mark's Square. We will begin with the women who starred in Le querelle de les femmes, as well as a review of those who managed to begin studies that were previously restricted. In the same square, we will remember the abduction of le Marie. We will take advantage of St. Mark's Basilica to comment on the importance of women in the early beginnings of Christianity, as well as their role in the Order of the Templars. From there we will head to the Doge's Palace to transport ourselves to the most glorious era of the doges and... the dogaresas, with fascinating stories.
We will pass by the Venetian prisons to review the history of the Holy Office in Venice, but also that of a legendary figure like Casanova, and his myth with women from a gender perspective. From there, we will walk to the Ospedale della Pietà, to learn about the relationship between Vivaldi and a unique women's choir. We will step back a few meters towards the Church of San Zaccaria, where we will examine the final destiny of some of the dogaresas before heading towards the legend of the "sotoportego di Corte Nova".
Accommodation.
Breakfast and dinner.
We begin the route from Campo di San Luca to recount the legend of the Sagra della Vecchia, and then explore the highlights of the red-light district from the Venetian era. We will discover the secrets of the Venice Carnival and the moretta mask, then focus on the life of the courtesan Veronica Franco. Her case will lead us to learn about other courtesans of Venice who have made history. We will return to St. Mark’s Square to discuss the visit of Empress Sissi of Austria to Venice. We will finish by reviewing what the arrival of Napoleon and the fall of the Venetian Republic meant for the city. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant (drinks not included).
