Discovering the Essence of Tohoku

Day 1: Spain - Tokyo

The day has finally arrived! Head to the airport to catch your flight to Tokyo, with a connection in Frankfurt.

Night on board.

Day 2: Tokyo - Aomori

Breakfast.

Welcome to Japan! You will depart from the bullet train station in Tokyo and, after a three-hour journey on the iconic Shinkansen train, you will arrive at Shin-Aomori. Can you imagine what awaits you? From there, a bus will take you directly to Hakkoda, a region where winter unfolds in all its majesty, and where the legendary powder snow is perfect for those seeking the thrill of backcountry skiing and freeriding.

The Tohoku region, in the north of Japan's main island, offers you a winter paradise away from the tourist bustle. You will delve into Hakkoda, a mountain range formed by ancient volcanoes rising up to 1,584 meters. This active volcanic land, along with the mountains of Asahidake and Kurodake in Hokkaido, is known for its pristine and challenging terrain. Ready to dive into adventure? With a cable car that takes you to the top, you will enjoy spectacular views and a dreamlike landscape inviting exploration. On both sides of the cable car, you'll find exclusive freeride areas, though the true magic of Hakkoda lies in the amount of additional terrain you can explore if you have the right equipment.

For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, the possibilities are endless. With your touring skis or splitboard and climbing skins, you can venture to even more isolated, challenging, and almost unexplored slopes, paving the way for a truly immersive snow experience.

And after a day full of adrenaline, what better way to unwind than to immerse yourself in an onsen? These hot springs, famous in Japan, are a gift for the body and soul, offering revitalizing relaxation. Complete your day with a dinner at one of the local restaurants, and don’t miss trying the famous Hotate-gai, scallops from Aomori Prefecture, recognized for their sweet flavor and delicate texture.

Day 3: Hakkoda

Breakfast.

Good morning from the heights of Hakkoda, a place where nature displays its magic in every corner. Today you are in for an unforgettable day, where the cable car will take you directly to the summit, to the heart of a fairy tale landscape: the famous "snow monsters"! Did you know that these impressive formations, so unique to this region, are created by the icy winds of Siberia and the proximity of the sea? Among these trees covered with ice and snow, you will slide down long and exciting slopes that will make you feel like you're in another world.

With the guidance of an expert, who will analyze the snow and weather conditions, each route will be designed for you to enjoy this mountain adventure to the fullest. No two descents will be the same; every day in Hakkoda is unique, ensuring experiences full of excitement, adrenaline, and pure contact with nature.

And at the end of the day, the shinkansen will take you back to Morioka, allowing you to relax and admire the changing landscape of Tohoku. What better way to say goodbye to a day in this magical setting?

Day 4 to 7: Iwate and Akita

Breakfast.

The following days will take you to some of the most notable ski resorts in the regions of Iwate and Akita, where you'll have a unique experience, enjoying spectacular landscapes and perfect terrains according to the weather conditions and your guide's recommendations. Are you ready to explore the best of powder snow in Japan?

Geto Kogen

Imagine gliding down the exceptional slopes of Geto Kogen, in Iwate Prefecture, a medium-sized resort known for its impressive accumulation of powder snow, with an average of 15 meters per season. This place, though its weather can be unpredictable, will always surprise you with an abundance of snow, making it a must-see stop. Did you know that they recently opened tree skiing zones designed to challenge the most experienced skiers? With 17 trails and modern infrastructure, this resort offers a quieter and less crowded atmosphere than more famous ones, and the snow here can even exceed Niseko's!

Shizukuishi

If you're looking for a more intimate and traditional experience, Shizukuishi is the perfect place. This resort in Iwate is known for its impressive views of Mount Iwate, the highest mountain in the prefecture. Here you can enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, with three nearby stations and off-piste areas to explore. Additionally, it features a FIS-certified course and several snowboard parks for freestyle enthusiasts. Can you imagine relaxing after a day of skiing in a ryokan, enjoying a kaiseki dinner while watching the stars? In Shizukuishi, the altitude of 730 meters offers you clear skies and an impressive night landscape.

Akita-Hachimantai

For those seeking a more authentic challenge, Akita-Hachimantai is the ideal place. This resort, located at 900 meters altitude, stands out for its immaculate powder snow and its tree routes. Despite being small, with only one chairlift and two trails open mainly on weekends, it offers a unique experience for experienced skiers, with access to backcountry routes and less-traveled areas. Would you dare to explore its “snow monsters” and enjoy the tranquility of this winter paradise?

Appi-Kogen (and Hachimantai CAT option)

Finally, if you want to experience a larger resort, Appi-Kogen is an excellent choice. Famous for its long trails and modern facilities, this resort has evolved to offer more tree skiing opportunities, allowing off-piste skiing in specially designated areas. Would you like to experience the thrill of accessing advanced terrains with a snowcat tour in the Nishimori area? In the Hachimantai CAT, you can enjoy the famous powder snow of Iwate while relaxing in a luxury cabin with spectacular views.
