Traveling to Khogno Khan is a unique opportunity to see at the foot of the mountains, the Erdene Monastery - also called Ogvon -. Founded in the 17th century, it once housed... up to 1000 monks! Nowadays, you will only see a couple of them walking around the area once or twice a month, when the emotional ceremonies dedicated to Buddha and the mountain spirit are held. It is also in this monastery where the name of the area originates. Shortly after its foundation, an enemy king ordered that all the monks in the place be decapitated, translation of the word “khogno”. Will you pray for the martyrs in front of the spirit of the mountain?
