Welcome to one of the most sacred temples of the Newari culture! Also known as the Hill or Monkey Temple, you will find a large community of these friendly animals, who are the sacred lords of the place, upon visiting the Swayambhunath Temple. This place is revered by both Buddhists and Hindus and is composed of a Tibetan monastery, a plethora of shrines, and of course, the great White Stupa and at its highest point, the watchful eyes of Buddha observing the four cardinal points.
"Did you know that above Buddha's eyes there is a third one that represents knowledge?"
During the 365 steps you will find on your visit to the Swayambhunath Temple, you will see many statues and monuments representing Hindu gods, making your ascent to the more than 1,500 year-old temple quite an entertaining journey. The reward is at the top, where, besides the complex, you will be amazed by the incredible view of the city of Kathmandu. And if you also reach its summit at sunrise or sunset, you can see the faithful praying and spinning their rollers, a scene full of emotion. A must-see!
I like to explore off the beaten path, where the known lacks mystery. Traveling alone allows me to discover remote places, enjoy landscapes, and learn from local communities. I am a free spirit who follows his impulses and enjoys every moment, choosing destinations without hesitation, as each place has its own soul.
